What is the Problem We are Helping You Solve?
The vast majority of agency owners started their firm because they are passionate about the creative aspect of the business. You love to handle design, web development, print, SEO or some other technical service at which you are an expert.
What you love less is selling.
The reality is this: as an agency owner or local marketing consultant, you are in the sales and marketing business first, and the creative business second, because if you aren’t steadily adding new clients, you aren’t building a business that will ever be profitable enough to one day be sold for a large sum of money.

The Local Business Marketing Opportunity

42% of the US population owns a small business, and collectively, these small businesses account for 75% of job creation.
A very large portion of these small business owners need your help because they no little to nothing about online marketing.
They don’t know how to build a website, they don’t know how to drive traffic to their sites, and they don’t know how to generate leads.

In 2012, spending on online marketing increased 22% from $32 Billion to $39 Billion.
That is a massive increase and that spells a huge opportunity for local marketing consultants and marketing agencies who develop the necessary digital marketing expertise.

Across the board, spending on online advertising is expected to continue to grow exponentially.
That means millions of small business owners will be spending money on mobile-friendly websites, SEO, content creation, email marketing, social media, marketing automation, sales funnels, and so much more.
As a part of the Online Income Lab’s member-only community, you will be surrounding yourself with a vibrant community of other like-minded new entrepreneurs, all hungry to learn what it takes to take advantage of this massive opportunity. (*images from reachlocal.com)

For those of you who’d like the longer version, please keep on reading…
I started my last company in 2001 and in the years that I was CEO, we generated well over $7 million in sales, with the bulk of it for IT services delivered over the Internet.
In 2008, at the age of 38, I sold the company for $1.2 million and moved to San Diego to enjoy a mini-retirement. Suffice to say, I’m extremely grateful for the experience and the financial rewards that were the result of 8 years of focused execution.
I was originally born in Langley, BC, Canada…eh!
Back in the 70′s and 80′s my parents were both working parents and our family was forever broke. Divorce soon arrived and I was left living with my mom, and then when she remarried, I moved in with my Dad and brother. At that point, I was in grade 5 and we were living in a welfare apartment barely getting by.
From this experience, I concluded that poverty completely sucked and, as I grew older, I was determined to make something of myself so that my family would never have to live with all the financial stress that I grew up with.
My first “real job” was selling photocopiers. In my first year, I made about $60,000 (back in 1991). I was 21 and making more than my dad and anyone I knew!
I thought that was pretty amazing and it was a huge eye opener for me in terms of what was possible if you were focused.
After a few years of that, I became a stockbroker and went on to earn even more money while still in my mid and early 20′s. I bought a big house and every toy I wanted.
Life was awesome!
Not being content with what I had, I felt the urgent need to quit my job and start a company.
Everyone thought I was nuts.
My first attempt was a complete flop. It was supposed to be a .com, however I only got as far as a well drafted business plan and a $100,000 investment from a private investor that I knew from my career in finance. After a year of total frustration, I told my investor that it wasn’t going to work and gave him back what remained of his money.
My Last Startup

A few months later, I founded my next startup, Dyrand Systems Inc – which is still in business today.
Our model was simple – we delivered a suite of IT services over the Internet and charged a retainer fee for doing so. (at the time, this was virtually unheard of in our industry)
During the first few years, we saw sales doubling every year, and as a result, we won all sorts of awards.
In 2008 we expanded the business into Seattle, WA.
Within two months of my moving to Seattle, I got an offer to sell the company – which I happily accepted. (it was all those retainer clients that made my firm so valuable)
As soon as the sale closed, I immediately packed my bags and headed south to sunny San Diego, where I live today. If you’d like to hear the entire story of the sale of Dyrand in detail, just watch the video below. I get a lot of emails about it, so I suspect you’ll enjoy it, too.

I welcome your feedback and hope that my ideas prove as helpful to you as other’s ideas have for me.
Warm regards,
Trent Dyrsmid
