Want More Traffic an Online Sales?
If you are a new entrepreneur, small business owner, or someone with a job they’d like to quit, this blog is for you.
Most new Internet entrepreneurs suffer from a lack of knowing what to do to start making money online in the least amount of time possible. Because of this, they waste countless hours and countless dollars on the wrong things.
This results in frustration…and in many cases, eventually they quit.
My Mission
I’ve put up this blog to share my journey with you, as well as to inspire, educate, and encourage others to follow my path. Having run a fast growing technology company with two offices, several million in sales, and over a dozen employees, I can assure you that the business model of the smart Internet Marketer has FAR more leverage than a “traditional” company could ever have.
However, with internet marketing, the learning curve is even steeper than with a traditional business.
My mission is to spend the next 10 years teaching 1,000 people how to launch and run a successful online business.
To achieve my mission, my plan is to use this blog, along with my other training products, to share with you exactly what is (and isn’t) working in my own online businesses.
My niche sites and Niche Site Mastery earn me a very nice income on their own, and I’m now using that money to re-invest into other projects that are currently in development.
As you can see, things online can happen very quickly if you are focused (I built my very first website in November 2010) and that is one of the reasons why I’m so passionate about it.
A Bit about my background…
I started my last company in 2001 and in the years that I was CEO, we generated well over $7 million in sales; with the bulk of it for IT services delivered over the Internet.
In 2008, at the age of 38, I sold the company for a very nice sum and retired to San Diego. Suffice to say, I’m extremely grateful for the experience and the financial rewards.
My Story…
My name is Trent and I was originally born in Langley, BC, Canada…eh.
Back in the 70′s and 80′s my parents were both working parents and our family was forever broke. Divorce soon arrived and I was left living with my mom, and then when she remarried, I moved in with my Dad and brother. At that point, I was in grade 5 and we were living in a welfare apartment barely getting by.
From this experience, I concluded that poverty completely sucked and, as I grew older, I was determined to make something of myself so that my family would never have to live with all the financial stress that I grew up with.
My first “real job” was selling photocopiers and in my first year, I made about $60,000 (back in 1991). I was 21 and making more than my dad and anyone I knew.
I thought that was pretty amazing and it was a huge eye opener for me in terms of what was possible if you were focused.
After a few years of that, I became a stockbroker and went on to earn even more money while still in my mid and early 20′s. I bought a big house and every toy I wanted.
Life was awesome!
Not being content with what I had, I felt the urget to quit my job and start a company.
My first attempt was a complete flop. It was supposed to be a .com, however I only got as far as a well drafted business plan and a $100,000 investment from a private investor that I knew from my career in finance. After a year of total frustration, I told my investor that it wasn’t going to work and gave him back what remained of his money.
My Last Startup
A few months later, I founded my next startup, Dyrand Systems Inc - which is still in business today.
Our model was simple; we delivered a suite of IT services over the Interent and charged a subscription fee for doing so.
During the first few years, we saw sales doubling every year, and as a result, we won all sorts of awards.
Despite that, starting Dyrand was expensive and painful. In our first two years, we lost $185,000 of my own money!!
In fact, it took 5 years for us to start making a profit – far longer than I ever thought it would take.
In 2008 we were profitable and I expanded the business into Seattle, WA, got my working visa and moved into the states. In moving to Seattle, I’d finally realized a childhood dream – living in the USA!
Within two months of my moving to Seattle, I got an offer to sell the company and I happily took it.
As soon as the sale closed, I immediately packed my bags and headed south to sunny San Diego, where I live today.
Early in my time here, I was introduced to a friend named Kane (also a Canadian) who’d just quit his job in Calgary and moved to San Diego. Kane asked me what kind of business I thought he should start and I encouraged him to get into Internet Marketing. Over the next year, I watched Kane become extremely successful.
Eventually I had been retired for long enough and decided to get back into business myself. Seeing what Kane had accomplished, I decided to go in the same direction as I had advised him to do a year ago and he and I are now working on a new venture together.
My experience with Dyrand and seeing Kane’s success online, led me to develop a few business principles that I adhere to today. They are:
- Choose a business with very low startup costs
- Keep expenses as low as possible, for as long as possible (much easier to do if you don’t need employees or an office)
- Choose a business with very high gross profit margins (info-products have insane profit margins)
- Choose a business that I can run from anywhere in the world
- Choose a business that is FUN and allows me to continuously learn
Being an Internet Marketer allows me to stick to my business principles. It can do the same for you.
My Hobbies
I’m definitely a bit of an adrenaline junky and count motocross, car racing, and mountain biking among my favorite hobbies.
I welcome your feedback and hope that my ideas prove as helpful to you as other’s ideas have for me.
Warm regards,
Trent Dyrsmid
